Inside the workshop

Welcome to Baker's Home Workshop in Chester. This is not a polished showroom, but a genuine working space filled with seasoned timber, hand tools, custom benches, and the honest scent of fresh sawdust.

The heart of the craft

The main workbench is where most projects begin. The workshop combines modern machinery such as the table saw, router table and planer with traditional hand tools including Japanese saws, chisels and hand planes. I enjoy using whatever combination of tools makes the job work best.

Custom fixtures and jigs

A lot of what I build never leaves the workshop. Jigs, fixtures, storage, and workbenches are all designed around the way I work. I also make my own 3D-printed guides and workshop aids when an awkward job needs a better solution. If I can make something that makes the next job easier, more accurate, or safer, I'll probably end up building it.

From rough timber to finished piece

Every project starts with timber and an idea. From choosing the right piece of wood to cutting, shaping, joining, and sanding, I enjoy being involved in every part of the process. Some projects are straightforward. Others involve a bit of head-scratching, a new jig, and occasionally doing something twice — but that's all part of making things by hand.
